About us
Market Stall
This store originally opened in Keighley's out door markets in the late 1800's under Bob Scaife. Since then it has been passed down through generations of butchers who all served their apprenticships at this store before they bought it. This includes Roy Dykes, who re-branded it Roy Dykes butchers, a change from the old Scaifes name. Roy would become the presedent of the, Confederation of Yorkshire Butchers Councils, leaving his mark on the trade. Roy just like those before him belived that quality could not be compromised.
Queens road
Built in 1934, Queens road has always been a butchers and a bakers. This shop has served its local comunity for years, unwavering in its comitment to supplying the best quality products for the right price. Under Chris and Linda Herd this shop has grown and flourished. Supplying local businesses with its produces as well as the local people. Now it is also a busy sandwich shop too! We pride oursleves on everything being fresh and tasty.
Barnes of Keighley
At 13, Ben Barnes asked Roy Dykes (market stall) for a job on a weekend. A passion started to build for the trade and Ben would work here until he was 18. At 18 Barnes began to work for C&L Herd (queens road). Until he was 19 when he then bought Roy Dykes Butchers. This venture proved a sucsess for Ben. Navigating the lockdowns was tough but eventually, he was in a position to buy C&L Herds too, unifying both of these shops under the Barnes name.
Our passion
We employ people from the local area, who are passinate about our shop and our community. The stores work so well because our staff and our customers are amazing at what they do/allow us to do. We produce everything in store from the pastry we use for our pies, the beef we butcher and even the infamus 'Bhaji Bombs' which are a favourite.
